Lamb Weston / Meijer optimizes its supply chain management with SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP). The international manufacturer optimizes the budget and forecasting process on the sales side with this SAP HANA-based cloud solution. SAP partner AEPEX took care of the implementation.

Lamb Weston is a global leading brand in high-quality potato products. The company Lamb Weston / Meijer supplies frozen products to customers in the foodservice, Quick Service and Retail. Headquartered in Kruiningen – the Netherlands. The company operates five production plants: three in the Netherlands, one in the UK and one in Austria. Lamb Weston / Meijer employs 1,300 people.

Efficient Production Capacity Utilization

Lamb Weston / Meijer has a monthly customer demand forecast cycle, that is used to align and optimize the purchase, sales and available production. Optimized planning is important, especially because Lamb Weston / Meijer operates in a growth market. The production capacity is limited, so wise choices need to be made.

Time for quality

The account managers previously supplied the data for the budget and forecasting process in multiple spreadsheets, which were then manually put into a central system. The implementation of SAP Integrated Business Planning simplifies this process thoroughly. Account managers can enter their proposed volume and price data directly in the system, increasing both the efficiency of the process as well as the reliability of the data. Where the staff previously was occupied with all the administrative tasks, nowadays they can dedicate their time to data analysis on the budget and forecast figures. They can use the familiar Excel front-end or the user-friendly Web interface, which can be used from both desktops and mobile devices.

Maximum efficiency

Next to increasing their efficiency Lamb Weston / Meijer can optimize their margins with IBP. Because IBP also gives insight on margins, it does not only optimize capacity utilization, but also optimizes for maximum profitability. Lamb Weston / Meijer is considering to also grant their customers access to the system in the future. These customers can share their own forecast directly in the system. Lamb Weston/ Meijer would be able to save time in the entire supply chain and at the same time increase the reliability of the shared data. Account managers also have easier access to their forecasting data for even more efficient operations.

Within six months

The cooperation with implementation partner AEPEX went very well. Thanks to an optimum match of LWM knowledge from the departments Demand Management, Controlling and IT and the skills of AEPEX the solution could be delivered and used within six months.
